How to Change Your Address on a Driving Licence Online
Moved to a new city or a different locality? You are required to update your address on the driving licence under the Motor Vehicles Act. The Sarathi portal lets you do this online in most states without visiting the RTO.

Keep scanned copies of the following ready before starting. The portal accepts JPEG, PNG, or PDF formats.
Aadhaar makes it easier. If your Aadhaar already has your new address, the portal can pull it automatically via OTP verification. No need to upload a separate address proof in that case.
How to Apply Online
The process is done through the Sarathi Parivahan portal under "Services on Driving Licence". Here are the steps:
Go to the Sarathi portal
Visit sarathi.parivahan.gov.in and select your state from the dropdown.
Select "Services on Driving Licence"
Click on "Apply Online" and then choose "Services on Driving Licence". Read the instructions and click Continue.
Enter your DL details
Type in your driving licence number and date of birth. The portal will fetch your existing records. Verify the details shown.
Choose "Change of Address"
From the list of available services, select "Change of Address". If you are moving to a different state, also select the new state and RTO.
Enter your new address and upload documents
Fill in the updated address, upload your new address proof and photograph. Confirm the details before proceeding.
Pay the fee and submit
Pay approximately ₹200 plus any smart card charges via UPI, net banking, or card. Save the acknowledgement receipt.
Print your updated DL online. Once approved, you can download and print the updated driving licence directly from the Sarathi portal using your application number and date of birth.
Inter-State Address Change
If you have moved to a different state entirely, the process has a couple of extra steps compared to a within-state change:
Get a NOC from the old RTO
Apply for a No Objection Certificate from the RTO that originally issued your DL. This can be done online in many states through the Sarathi portal itself.
Apply at the new state RTO
On the Sarathi portal, select the new state and RTO. Upload the NOC along with your address proof. Your DL will be transferred to the new state's records.
Update your RC too. If you have moved to a new state, remember to update the address on your vehicle's Registration Certificate (RC) as well. This is a separate process done through the Vahan portal.
